Supply Chain Management

We subcontract a majority of our development processes and work with around 4,180 suppliers and contractors across the Group, where we spend annually around £300 million (excluding land acquisitions). We have contractual arrangements with both national and local suppliers; this provides flexibility, healthy competition and benefits many suppliers and contractors local to sites that we are developing.

We are committed to selecting suppliers whose products and services exhibit the lowest possible social and environmental impact and regularly undertake audits of our supply chain partners to ascertain their environmental credentials.

This year, approximately 23% of our homes have been built using timber frame. Timber is a renewable product and we insist that our suppliers' only source timber from accredited forests that are either PEFC or FSC accredited.

We rely upon our supply chain to support the high standards that we are known for and believe in developing long-term relationships, 82% of our suppliers and contractors have worked with us for more than three years.

Our environmental integrity depends on that of our suppliers. A review of our key suppliers indicated that they all had in place an environmental policy and that a majority were either certified to ISO 14001 or were working towards this position. In addition we have identified specific initiatives demonstrating the extent to which our suppliers are working to reduce their affects upon the environment.
